Clasica Ciclista had attracted numerous well-known drivers in the recent past, but this year was lacking a number of sizes of the scene. Too bad was the appointment between Tour de France and Vuelta and especially immediately after the Olympics. Only on Wednesday in Tokyo rose the time trial, the Primoz Roglic decided.

Nevertheless, the field was quite prominent occupied, especially with Julian Alaphilippe. The world champion had won in the Basque Country in 2018. And also the Tour Second, Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark, was at the Biskaya as well as the Colombian Giro winner Egan Bernal or Localmatador Mikel Landa at the start. At the beginning of the 223.5 kilometers around San Sebastian, a 13 man strong top group determined that happen. In the meantime, the leading ones had more than three minutes lead, but the field took the outliers back.

The decision then fell on the last departure. A top group with Matej Mohoric, Neilson Powless, Lorenzo Rota and Mikkel Honoré crossed the last increase more or less together. But then taxed Mohoric, Rota and Honoré came to fall. User was Powless, who first took over the top. While Mohoric and Honor had returned to Powless again on the last kilometers, Rota was out of the race. So it came to a threesome sprint, the powless decided.
