Steam deck probably supports fewer games than some hope

The Steam Deck is an upcoming portable gaming computer system developed by Valve Corporation. It is expected to be released in December 2021.

Valves handheld PC called Steam Deck should actually play all games from your Steam library on the way. The statements of the responsible people also sound like that was no problem: So far, no game has been found that on the hardware is not running. But that's exactly what James B. Ramey is warning for misunderstandings, and he has to know. After all, he works with one of the software solutions.

Steam deck can probably not play all games from your Steam library

That's why it's: The Steam Deck works like a small, portable PC. It comes with its own Steam OS, ie an operating system specifically for the Nintendo Switch Alternative. But there is a hook on the thing: Linux and Proton.

What is Proton? For proton is a kind of intermediate-stored compatibility helper. The interface acts as a translation between volcano and DirectX, it should help you run smoothly. But the whole thing is still quite young and therefore not all the titles work, even if it becomes more and more.

The problem: Even if that has actually been known since the announcement of the Steam Deck, especially the Valve statement for misunderstandings could ensure that so far no Steam game has been found, which is not running on the steam deck. That sounds like the whole library really works, and already now.

That says the Proton Profi: Valve is likely to be more likely to be related to the performance of the hardware. The proton interface remained most likely at these tests and considerations. This is supposed to at least James B. Ramey, his sign of Codeweavers president, and with CodeWeavers, in collaboration with Valve Proton.

I think he did not necessarily be related to the fact that the game is supported in Proton - I think he has drawn to the fact that the device has the horsepower, the graphic capacity, the RAM and the hard disk space to each game to assist outside.

In Boiling Steam podcast James B. Ramey fears that the statements for confusion and frustration could provide (via Rock Paper Shotgun). Because games like pubg or apex legends function according to the protondb definitely not smoothly on the Linux-based steamos velvet proton.

So if you are not sure if your favorite steam game is running smoothly on the steam deck, you can search for it in the proton database. And of course hope: the work on proton continues and there are steadily new games that work easily.

Are you looking forward to the Steam Deck anyway? Which titles do you want to play first and foremost?
