Rustler becomes a mix of GTA and Monty Python and we really feel like it

Genre: Action Developer: Jutsu Games Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Switch Release: 31.08.2021

Developing a GTA clone sounds nowadays not necessarily after the superontally real idea. However, Rustler had already aroused our interest in his announcement and, above all, by his setting.

Because here you do not get through the road shots of a modern metropolis, but drives you around in the Middle Ages, which is why Rustler is now known in the editorial editorial as "the Middle Ages GTA". We looked at a gameplay demo for the game and learn more about the title, which should already appear at the end of August.

What do you do in this rustler?

The background history of Rustler is fast told: She slips into the role of "Guy", which is actually called, because his parents were too lazy according to the developers to superior a name. Guy acts as a small criminal and likes to drink one over the thirst. After such a job he holds a daring plan. He wants to participate in the big tournament and win the hand of the princess. But until then it is a way away.

The fact that Rustler is not only oriented in the perspective, but also playfully at the first two GTA parts, it is likely to notice non-GTA connoisseurs, and the developers actually call the early rockstar games as their greatest inspiration during the presentation. Accordingly, Tingent guy through the open game world and adopts various orders, including the local butchers, farmers or death graves, to obtain the necessary movers for participation in the tournament.

And the tasks then also act as mini games in the game, because for example, you have to kill people from A to B, finished fields or rumbling with a corpse cartoon to the local cemetery. However, the world of Rustler seems to be designed to be distracted by several side tasks (such as Mixed Martial Arts backyard vapors) and to discover the secrets (dinosaur bones in the quarry) again and again. Or you simply align chaos in the game world, similar to the old GTAS and delivers chases with the mounted lawyers.

Guy uses a whole series of weapons at its medieval trip, the focus is to lie according to the developers on melee weapons, ie swords, hatchbacks, etc., but for the ranging is also a crossbow used.

All this will not be presented beer, but with a huge wink. The developers emphasize in the gameplay presentation that they are "historically as inaccurate", with various medieval clichés, such as the law of laxing dealing with the subject of playing death and are especially inspired by the Monty Python humor (the knights of coconut) to let.

A Bard as a car radio

is called: Also in Rustler, there are sometimes very silly humor, such as "beep" noise when resetting with the carriage or police horse with flashing lights on the heads. That should probably not please everyone and it remains to be seen if this humor explores over time. To the style and the tonality of the game, the previously seen so far wonderful, especially as other thematically referenced similar works from the pop culture such as Game of Thrones or The Witcher to be taken and taken on the grain.

Our previous humor highlight: In the absence of an autoradios - which it did not exist then - Guy can hire berden on various places, which then tramps to be true and harp-teping, even on horseback. The music mood should adapt depending on the situation, a new "song" plays the Lakai when you make it aware of it by beat button.

Technically, the Rustler has so far sound solid and with many nice details in the game world, without hiding really from the stool. In any case, there is probably no problems with the performance, because the developers are based on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S constant 60 FPS and PS4 and Xbox One 30 FPS. On the PS5, the dualSense features are also supported, the haptic feedback approximately changes depending on the gallop speed, it should be remembered, from which direction you will be hit and the trigger provides appropriate resistance when it attracts the crossbow.

For whom is Rustler interesting?

This question can be answered easily. If you either stand on the first GTAS and / or the Monty Python humor, you should at least take a look at Rustler, as these two ingredients are mixed here with the non-excessed medieval setting.

Rustler appears on August 31, 2021 for PS5, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. You can watch a trailer for the game here:

Rustler assessment

Tobias Veltin @Frischerveltin

I like both GTA and the knights of the coconut ("brings out your dead") and therefore have been interested in Rustler since his announcement. And the scarce Gameplay presentation has confirmed my first impression. Rustler seems to become a straightforward and possibly shallow GTA clone, which can point to me especially with his setting and his humor. In the few minutes gameplay there were already many small funny details to discover and the "Bard Feature" I just find great! I'm sure I'll have a lot to smile at the game and I'm already looking forward to exploring the Middle Ages.

Nevertheless, questions are still open. Probably most important: Can the gameplay captivate permanently and above all the variety of tasks? A concrete main mission has not yet to be seen and only to organize chaos in the game world is likely to be rather boring in the long run. Accordingly, I do not expect a blockbuster, but a solid title that probably can easily play comfortably on a weekend.

What do you say about Rustler? Are you looking forward to it or are you still skeptical?
